One of the details guests remember most — often more than the decorations or the music — is the food.
Not in terms of quantity or sophistication. In terms of care.
The detail that makes the difference
There is something that almost every wedding people still talk about months later has in common: there was something special at the table. Not necessarily the most elaborate dish or the longest menu — but something thoughtful. A handmade savoury tart on the aperitivo table. A local cheese served with an edible flower on top. A wine that was not just any wine.
These details do not happen by chance. They are the result of precise choices, made with care, weeks before the day itself. And guests feel it — even without being able to explain why.
Eating outdoors changes everything
In summer, at Villa Acquaderni, the menu matters even more. Because you eat outside, in the courtyard, surrounded by the park. The Great Oak casts its shade, the suspended lights slowly come to life, the air carries the scent of the woodland on the Bolognese hills.
In this setting, food is not simply nourishment — it is part of the experience. People eat more slowly. They pause to look around. They talk more. The table becomes the heart of the celebration, not just the place where everyone sits.
It is what makes guests say, months later: “That wedding was different from the others.”
Wine: when a bottle tells a story
One of the elements that most surprises guests at Villa Acquaderni is the care taken in selecting the wines. Not a standard wine list — but bottles chosen specifically for that day, for those spouses, for that story.
At this summer’s wedding, among the bottles on the table were a Château Margaux 1995 and a Château Cheval Blanc 1994. Wines that had been waiting thirty years for the right moment. That day was the right moment.
The guests noticed. Not everyone can read a label — but everyone understands when something has been chosen with intention.
The aperitivo: the most convivial moment of the day
If there is one moment when food truly takes centre stage, it is the aperitivo. That is where guests meet, get to know one another, and settle into the occasion. And the aperitivo table — with its colours, its aromas, its abundance — sets the tone for everything that follows.
At Villa Acquaderni, the aperitivo takes place in the garden or the courtyard, depending on the season and the layout of the event. In July, with the sun still high and the park in full green around you, it is one of the most photographed moments of the entire day.
Thinking about the menu: when to start and how to choose
The menu is one of the last things couples think about and one of the first things people remember. It is worth giving it the time it deserves — not just choosing the courses, but thinking about the overall experience. How do the different moments flow into one another? Where is each part of the meal served? What atmosphere do you want to create?
A few useful questions to ask yourself:
Is the aperitivo a moment of transition or of celebration? If it is the first moment when all your guests are together, it deserves particular attention and care. Cheeses, cured meats, artisan breadsticks, something warm if the evening is cool — abundance makes guests feel welcomed.
Does the wine tell a story? You do not need to spend impossible amounts. But choosing even just one special bottle — one that has a history, that comes from a place that means something to you — changes the way the entire dinner feels.
Is there an unexpected detail? An edible flower on the cheese, an artisan digestif, a dish from the region where one of the spouses grew up — something that surprises and stays with people.
A menu worth the journey
At Villa Acquaderni we work with people who care about food as much as we do. If you are planning your summer menu and would like some inspiration — or simply want to hear about what we have served this season — get in touch.
We believe that a great wedding is felt at the table too.
